Have each student demonstrate for you how to:
- change the appearance of text they have keyed in,
- align text in various ways,
- demonstrate an understanding of "selecting/highlighting"

- PROCEDURES: (Can be led by facilitator or participants)
- Discuss the concept of formatting documents and text - explain default settings
- Demonstrate (or have particpants do together) Setting page size and orientaton (portrait or landscape)
- (Under Page Set up) - Setting or changing Margins (also show using ruler);
creating columns
- Setting Tabs using ruler, using the Tab command under Paragraph Menu
- Indenting paragraphs (using ruler, through Paragraph menu); hanging indent
- creating bullets, changing bullet sizes; creating bulleted lists
- creating borders
- PARTICIPANTS PRACTICE/APPLY:
Have participants practice the above manuevers using settings or parameters that you specify.
For example, have them set up a new page as follows:
- Orientation: Landscape (horizontal)
- Left Margin : 1.25 inches
- Right Margin: 1.25 inches
- Top: 2 inches
- Bottom : 1 inch.
- Columns: 3
- Line between columns (Rule Width): .5
- Spacing between columns: .5 inches
Check for understanding.
Have them make changes to the above settings using settings that you specify or making up their own.
Have them make changes to an existing document using the above manuevers. (Close without saving changes)
- ASSIGNMENT:
After reading the introductory information on each of the three kinds of printers, have learners create a document in which they compare and contrast the three kinds of printers discussed, They should use tabs to create a chart with three columns titled “Dot Matrix”, “Ink Jet” and “Laser”. Have them use bullets to list the features. (Show a sample of the format but without the features filled in).
- SOLUTIONS TO GROUP CHALLENGE: Ask what the group figured out about shortcuts (alternative ways) for changing font, font size, style and alignment.
