You may remember that we are able to "run" thousands of Programs from the New Deal "interface". In Unit 1 we covered creating launchers to get to them quickly.
Now you will install a "native" New Deal Program; meaning one that was written specifically for New Deal. |
- In “Computer” on your Desktop open the directory "Setup" and confirm that 4 files are now there.
- Single click on the file “Universal Installer (e)” and select “copy” from the file menu.

Copy this file to your New Deal Desktop directory (C:\NDO98\Desktop).
- Now you see on your Desktop the new program “Universal Installer”.

- Double click on that Program.
- Change to the directory called Setup (by clicking on the box on the Right called Drives; C:\ , then double clicking on the Setup directory).
- Double click on the file Geozip 2.0 and click on Install then follow the screen directions.
- Don’t be concerned that it is trying to “upgrade”. This just assures that another program won’t conflict.
- If instructed that it has not found a previous file, click “ignore”.
When you have applied the changes you will have installed two new programs in New Deal; the Universal Installer and a Zip Manager “Geozip”. You can find both of these in your applications group.

Return to "Computer" on your Desktop. In the "Setup" directory highlight (single click) then delete (delete key or drag to "Trashcan") all but the file Pkunzip.exe. You have used these to setup the program and will not need them again unless you need to do a reinstall. These programs were "downloaded" from the internet; if you need them again you can download the latest versions. |
- Open GeosZip and open the "Help" files in the first screen. You can do this two ways, remember how ? Briefly read the information on creating your own archieves. Close the Help and first Screen “compress files”.
- In the next screen open the file “othello.zip” on the A:\ disk . Help is available here in two ways also.
- Unzip (extract) those files to a new directory “games” in the C:\NDO98\Dosroom.
- You can make this directory in the small window on the right of the GeosZip programs window.
- In New Manager create a Launcher for the game Othello using the file O.exe in the C:\NDO98\Dosroom\games
directory.
